Even when we feel we have no alternatives, increase our comfort and ability to negotiate a good deal, minimizing power differences and poor decisions driven by coercion.

When to Use

Any time when preparing or conducting a negotiation, to keep in mind that we always have at least one alternative. Good or bad, the status quo is always there (and can be improved!).
