Nasruddin eats the UN 🍞
Nasruddin was invited to a grand meeting of leaders – all men.
Each came with a long speech about peace... and very short patience for listening.
Hours later, nothing had been agreed.
They finally turned to Nasruddin:
“You are a wise man. Tell us – how do we achieve peace?”
Nasruddin stood up, took a large loaf of bread and placed it in the center of the table.
“Let us share this.”
Each leader immediately grabbed a knife.
“No, no, no,” said Nasruddin, stepping back. “Not like that. First, we must agree how to divide it.”
They argued for another hour.
When they finally turned back, the bread was gone.
“Who took it??” they demanded.
Nasruddin wiped the crumbs from his beard, smiling.
“Sorry. I got hungry while you were busy arguing about it.”
The leaders were outraged.
“That’s unfair!”
Nasruddin bowed slightly.
“Yes. So is everything that happens while we are still discussing peace.”
Silence filled the room.
Peace delayed is often peace consumed.
Happy International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace
