The Master and the wealthy man with a bag of gold π°
A wealthy man came to the Master carrying a bag of gold.
βI want to help the poor.β
Β
βWhich poor?β
Β
The man pointed toward a family nearby.
βThem.β
Β
βWhy them?β
Β
βThey are poor.β
Β
βAre they the poorest?β
Β
The man hesitated,
βDoes that matter? I donβt know. But I see them every day.β
Β
The Master smiled.
βSo your eyes have decided where your heart should give.β
Β
The man frowned.
βThen where should I look?β
Β
βFarther.β
Β
βHow far?β
Β
βUntil distance stops deciding whose suffering matters.β
Β
Months later, the man returned.
βI found families in a faraway village I will probably never visit.
The same gold can help many more people there.
And instead of deciding what they need, I can simply give them the money.β
Β
βWould you trust strangers with money?β
Β
The man smiled.
βI trusted myself to decide what to do with it...β
Β
The Master nodded.
Β
βBut, Master,β he said, βthere will always be someone else I could help.β
Β
βYes.β
Β
βThen how will I ever know I have given enough?β
Β
The Master glanced at the bag.
βIs that all the gold you have?β
Β
The man laughed.
βOf course not. This is what I can spare.β
Β
The Master smiled.
βThen perhaps you are still asking how to feel good.β
